IGCSES AND INTERNATIONAL A-LEVELS

Malvern College Chengdu offers both IGCSEs and International A-Levels. All lessons are taught in English, in small classes by expert teachers. Students who have successfully completed International A-Level courses can choose to continue their education in universities in English speaking countries such as the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia or New Zealand.

The International General Certificate of Secondary Education – IGCSE – is a foundation course, which students should do before the International A Level course. This course is suitable for students who have graduated from Junior High School, and very able students can complete the course in one year. Students sit the IGCSE exams in May or June of the following summer. The results of these are graded A* to U. We want students to be successful, so as a school we will tell students whether they are ready to take an IGCSE examination or not, and we make the IGCSE examination entries for them.

Only students achieving at least five IGCSEs at grade C or above can join the sixth form to study A levels. Students also need to be at least Upper Intermediate level on the EC assessment scale to enter the sixth form. If students do not achieve these standards they will not have the right educational level to successfully complete the International A-Level courses.

An intensive course of English as an Additional Language lessons is offered to all students and further individual support is available from the learning development department as required by students.
