IB maths Examiner
In the past 8 years Mr Dong has been teaching IGCSE, A-level and IB Mathematics in top public schools in Jiangsu Province, including Nanjing Foreign Language School, Suzhou High School, Wuxi No.1 High School. Mr Dong also has A-level and IB Maths teaching experience at Warwick School and Kinghurst academy in the UK.
Being a mathematics teacher has been both personally satisfying and beneficial for his students, Mr Dong enjoys using activities, such as ICT and card sorts to enhance students’ learning, making the lessons more interesting. Working as a tutor is equally rewarding; having learnt not only the student management style, but also how to communicate effectively with his students and their parents.
Mr Dong’s teaching style is to use a range of strategies to promote learning. He sees his role as a facilitator not someone who is there just to provide answers to questions. Four part lessons are essential: 1) bell activity; 2) starter; 3) main part of lesson; and 4) a lesson plenary. Behavior management is equally important: His three rules of class discipline are for students to be prepared for class, follow directions and to be in class and seated when the bell rings.
Mr Dong says: “My aim is not only to be a Mathematics teacher, but to be a professional Mathematics teacher. I believe secondary school students are the group I want to inspire, and I have no doubt I have much to offer them.”
