Stuart has been teaching IGCSE and A-level for the last five years in the only accredited Cambridge centre in Lombok, Indonesia. For three of those years, he also held the position of Exams Officer, overseeing and coordinating all of the international exams for high school. He has had experience teaching adult numeracy and GCSE in England, teaching English as a foreign language in South Korea, and as a high school coordinator in Indonesia.
Questioning and puzzles are two of the core strategies that Stuart uses to foster his students’ enjoyment of mathematics and improve their ability to apply both logical and creative ways to solve problems. Mathematics outside the classroom is something that he would like to explore further, together with incorporating pre- and post-activity self-assessment opportunities for students to see and appreciate their progression and take responsibility for their own learning.
Stuart takes seriously the responsibility of being a good role model for his students and enjoys being involved in team sports with students and fellow teachers. He is a keen hiker, Ultimate Frisbee player and juggler, and he will inevitably encourage others to join him in these activities.
