Boarding Life at MCC

IN THIS SECTION

 December 23, 2021

Everyone must be very curious, how about the boarding life at MCC? Let’s have a look at the reflections from our senior grade students.

Gavin Wu from School House

I’m Gavin Wu, I started boarding after primary school and the experience at MCC is truly special. I’m proud to say that I’m a member of the glorious ‘School House’. ‘School House’ is all about collaboration and has a strong family feeling. Students in School House are helpful, and whenever you have a problem, you can go to your roommate or friend, and they will always give you the helping hands that you need.

We have a huge activity room with TVs, KTV, table football and air hockey, and some of the best moments I’ve had is playing with my friends in House at school. This is the type of experience that you can’t get anywhere else, only in such a nice environment can you feel joy with all your friends. This will be something I will miss after my graduation.

Of course, boarding isn’t just about having fun with your mates, it also helps you in many ways. It gives you the experience of talking to different teachers with different cultures and opinions, increasing your social skills, and also letting you practice your independence skills, which is what I’ll need in the future.

For those who are interested in boarding life, you can take some suggestions from me. Make a list of things you will need for boarding, sticking to school’s list is fine… you do not want to experience a week without your toothbrush or slippers! Also, don’t be afraid to speak to others, they are all friendly, make some friends, it’s good for you.

Yola Tang from Ellerslie House

I’m Yola Tang. Although I’ve only been a member of Ellerslie for 3 years, I love our House, and I had lots of fun here with my housemates and Housem. It is easy to get into this big family because everyone is kind and friendly. Our Housem, Charlotte You is a really cute, nice person, she always cooks delicious food for us and many girls have participated in the cooking and enjoyed the food.

I am proud of Ellerslie girls. We are talented, and won the talent show in 2020; we are strong, we beat Nightingale in 15 seconds and won the tug of war easily. We are modest and quiet, but always win the first place.

The moment that most impressed me was the basketball game with Nightingale. It was hard, even though we lost a few goals, we never complained to each other, and we were still encouraging each other. Every time I think about this, I feel warm and touched.

I love Ellerslie, and I will definitely miss the House after I graduate. Maybe many years later, I will still remember my Housem, Charlotte and can make her nice spicy sauce because she has a secret recipe.

Limbo from Nightingale House

I am Limbo Hui from Nightingale House. During my lifetime at MCC, I was first in Ellerslie House and then move to Nightingale House. Although I am not an old member of Nightingale, the atmosphere of unity, friendliness and motivation caught me on the day I joined this big family.

It says that when you join Nightingale House, you will become very positive. We have many activities at Nightingale and the weekly House Nights are something to look forward to. The jacket potatoes, chocolate cake and coconut chicken that come on small and large plates are all prepared for us by our Housem. Not only does Nightingale show solidarity in the preparation of the food, but I am also impressed by Nightingale’s spirit of solidarity, striving to be first and not giving up when competing with other Houses. Apart from these exciting moments, there are also many heart-warming moments at Nightingale. I remember during our previous exams, our Housem gave everyone a letter of encouragement and a lucky necklace to wish us luck in our exams and to ease our anxiety and encourage us. When I graduate, I will miss Nightingale and all the touching letters our Housem wrote to us. Finally, please enjoy the moment, enjoy your time at the House and behave yourself, this is your second home.

Bobby (Roberto) from Aston House

I am Bobby. I am the House Captain of Aston House, and I consider myself to be one of the people who are most involved in the activities or events. From my point of view, Aston House has created an amazing environment in which all students in the House are willing to participate in House activities. Our Housemaster seems like a ‘father’. The House to me is like the second home as I have the opportunity here to spend time with my friends and have a lot of fun with them. There was a time that I and some others in the House went onto the stage for the talent show and I really enjoyed the kind of feeling of being “the super star” and the excitement there. After June next year it will be tough for me to experience all this again as I have planned to go to the UK to study mathematics and I think this boarding experience has really helped me to develop my skills in interacting with others. I am certainly prepared and not afraid to take the next step in my journey. In the future I will miss two things, one is the wonderful Mr Gill (Head of Boarding, Mr Neil Gillespie. The students always called him Mr Gill), Alice Wu and our Matron Li. The other is the feeling of dominating School House on Tuesday nights’ football competition. I believe younger students should really take the opportunities that boarding life has brought them and develop into a better person. Take part in every activity and you will grow stronger every day.

Thanks to our excellent senior grade students for sharing and wish all the students to continue their hard work and achieve excellent results.
