Malvern College Chengdu offers a through-school education:
Pre-school focuses on a bilingual education allowing children to acquire basic conversation skills in both languages. Based on Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), children are nurtured in seven major abilities and will develop their independent learning and exploration through exposure to Forest School, Montessori and Reggio Emilia teaching approaches.
During primary education, the focus is on nurturing students to use Chinese, whilst at the same time to lay a solid foundation of English, providing a dual-track choice for students educated in different teaching patterns and at different learning age. For Chinese language and mathematics, we use the teaching materials correspondent to China’s national curricular standards. While we adopt China’s rigorous teaching methods, we integrate the diversifed teaching modes from other countries. For English, Cambridge Assessment and key global vision courses are integrated into the Chinese national curriculum. Malvern College Chengdu pioneered the interdisciplinary subject teaching of exploring the world in the Southwest of China. Using the Chinese national curriculum as our basis, we draw on the essence of the UK, Hong Kong, IB and STEM, and cultivate students’ comprehensive qualities through a series of thematic inquiry activities. In the four major areas of learning: growth and life, people and environment, society and culture, science and technology, we develop students’ ability of independent cooperation, observational research, comprehensive analysis, critical thinking, creative thinking and problem solving.
Secondary education aims to prepare students for further overseas education. While meeting the requirements of the national curriculum, students in senior forms will study for IGCSE and A-Level qualifcations enabling them to apply for undergraduate courses in top universities in the United Kingdom, U.S.A., Australia and Canada. Furthermore, a holistic teaching approach which also encompasses physical education, music, arts, extra-curricular activities and the Duke of Edinburgh Award will develop each students’ skills in leadership, sociability and hobby exploration.
