New Year Celebration and Temple Fair in Term 1

On 16th January 2025, as a prelude to the Chinese New Year holiday, Malvern College Chengdu organised a special New Year Celebration and Temple Fair, filling the campus with a lively and festive atmosphere.

The celebrations began with a wonderful performance by the Pre-Prep children, entitled The Frozen Adventure“. This musical was adapted from the popular animated film Frozen and through their sweet and lively singing and dancing, the children shared messages about love and friendship. When they performed the song Let It Go the young performers’ captivating rendition earned rounds of applause from the audience.

The Prep School’s performance was a vibrant celebration of the four seasons: Spring, Summer, Autumn, and Winter. It began with the graceful Minuet,followed by a stunning presentation ofPoetic Dance‘, a Chinese classic dance drama, which exuded the charm of traditional Chinese culture. A dazzling martial arts display, Heaven and Earth Dragon followed, showcasing pupils’ strength and energy. A reprise of the Frozen musical showcased the pupils’ comprehensive talents in drama, music, and dance. The event ended with a powerful group song, ‘Try Everything’, which saw pupils express their hopes and dreams for the future. The performances highlighted MCC’s respect for Chinese traditional culture and demonstrated the seamless integration of Eastern and Western culture traditions.

Amidst the hustle and bustle of the end-of-term exams and preparations, the Senior School pupils gave an exciting and energetic song and dance performance. Their smiles and dynamic performances gave home and dreams to the audience, adding an extra special warmth and vitality to the Year of the Snake celebrations.

The Temple Fair was bustling with excitement and joy. Traditional folk games like Pitch-Pot, Lantern Riddles, Burr Puzzle, and Ring-Toss were very popular amongst both parents and children. Everyone also enjoyed spending time together, laughing and having fun. The food stalls served delicious traditional treats like Egg Pancakes, Sugar-coated haws, and White Fungus Lotus Seed Soup giving everyone a taste of the festive season. There were also captivating performances of Chinese cultural traditions and surprise guest appearances which made the event even more special.
